ReplyDelete* your blog on the beautiful wild flower offered me an immediate throwback to a few lines I had read from the English poet Thomas Gray’s Elegy, “Full many a flower is born to blush unseen and waste its sweetness on the desert air.”Like that perhaps, so many remarkable lives and deeds lived and done by common ordinary people never come to the limelight or are recorded. Such flowers are beautiful, like the wild flower you have mentioned, Gray would say, whether anyone ever sees them or not. Perhaps there are people who have the innate beauty or talent or gift, but they are born into or placed in situations where their beauty, talent or gift does not get a chance to manifest itself and is utterly lost or wasted. I appreciate your attempt in bringing back to life the beauty of such a ‘nameless’ wild flower for others to appreciate and it is true only a roving inquisitive eye can see such beauty often left unnoticed. Perhaps it will find its ‘name’ someday.

In coastal area of orissa that wild flower of odia blog is known as GENDALIA.
Its flowering occurs only in rainy season and it is used in Gamha Purnima (Rakshya Bandhan )
to worship cow.
I doubt if Gendalia is the name of a wild flower. I always thought Gendalia to be the name of a bird. I remember an old Odia fim song from 'Matira Manisha' sung by Akshay Mohanty"

Mr.Mahapatra,you are right about the name GENDALIA,it is a bird,but we cannot say that the mame of a bird and a flower cannot be similar.Some of the local names are very surprising because it comes out from the local situation and culture.These local names have always helped the botanists to create a new botanical name.I think a botanist will definitely be able to find out the GENUS and Species of this plant.Once the botanical name is found,world wide people will recognise it.
